Children's Day
Each generation must live its life for the next generation. The younger isn't there for the older, but the older is there for the younger.
How does this philosophy reflect upon current public policy toward the economy; the environment; or even our foreign policy?
Unfortunately, most of our economy is now driven by what the next quarterly report to stockholders will show. There is very little evidence of long term strategy for solid growth and reinvestment in upgrading equipment and facilities in many stock corporations with some corporations now having more stock value than tangible assets or income.
That does not portend well for the future economic stability of our country and our world. What economic mess will our children face?
We are refusing to create public policy to demand energy efficiency in all areas of consumption. We are refusing to demand public policy that would initiate a race toward the development of alternative energy sources and resources. We are relaxing restrictions on heavy industry and development. Pollution and destruction of our natural world is escalating at a non-recoverable rate...all for the corporate dollar - to enable a handful of old men to draw multiple million dollar annual salaries and benefit packages.
That does not portend well for the future of our natural world. What horrors of pollution, disease and calamity will our children face?
We are increasingly alienating the rest of the world with our political policies of embargoes and wars and evil disdain for the circumspect religious practices of conservative peoples.
We create incredible hardships for the poor, elderly, and children in country after country - Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, etc., rather than acting as Christian leaders of a 'Christian' nation by actually following instructions found in the Old Testament and in the New Testament - from Isaiah to Jesus.
Matthew 11:1. After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.
2. When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples
3. to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
4. Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
5. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
6. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."
Then again in
Luke 4:14. Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.
15. He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.
17. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18. "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,
19. to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
20. Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on
him...
We would, indeed, have the eyes of everyone fastened upon us if we were to go into all the world with a message of hope, help and peace. If we were to openly and freely bring food and agri-technology; medicine and healthcare services; education and social services; goods, services and open market and equitable trade practices...
We could leave a world for our children in which they wouldn't have to fear terrorism and hatred and impending calamity.
Someone needs to tell our 'Christian' leaders that Jesus DID NOT say 'go into all the world and make democracies - bombing evil wherever you find it...'
Jesus said for us to go into the world bringing the Prince of Peace; feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, binding the broken, bringing sight to blind eyes, strengthening lame legs, touching the lepers, bringing release to those in captivity...blessing and not cursing.
That's what Jesus said. Anybody got a problem with that?! I submit to you that Jesus' way works...any other way only perpetuates evil in the world around us!
Those who want to argue with that are more political than they are Christian. THAT, my friend, is what's the matter with America today.
God help the children. We certainly aren't.
