Confessions of a country preacher

These are musings of James Huffman...

(I suppose a disclaimer is necessary, or at least common, in the publishing of an individual's thoughts. To that extent, I want to say up-front here that these are not to be construed as the opinions or beliefs of Christ's Church, its elders, or members.)

The opinions expressed here are solely the feelings and thoughts of James E. Huffman, a fellow who has been serving in pastoral capacities since August of 1970. A preacher who, many years ago, graduated from a small high school in a little town in the northernmost edge of the hills of the Ozarks and has never really had much of a comfort zone away from the hills and those wonderful, genuine hill folk. Thank you, Jamestown, Missouri, for sheltering and nurturing me during my wonderful teenage years.

My mother's people settled in the hills northeast of what is now Branson,  Missouri, back in the 1840's and many of them have never left. On some summer days it seems that the rest of the world has now come to them to discover the beauty and wonder of the hills and its people.

My precious wife graduated from a wonderful little college nestled on a river bluff just outside, and within sight of, Branson.

Each of us approach life with a perspective that has many facets. There are certainly transitions in our philosophical development as we age and experience different things, places and people. However, it is difficult to get very far away from our family of origins and its socio-cultural setting with its geographically  nurtured distinctives.

To that extent, there is more than a grain of truth in the old adage - "You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy."

Here are some of my musings on:

Some 'Christians' make me want to run and hide.

Spoiled & entitled Christians: We want glory!

Aging: Old Age Comes At A Bad Time

Child abuse: When a child cries...

Panic: Where is Jesus?

Motivation: Ice Cream and Exercise

Friendships: You Have That Special Something

Sovereignty of God: If your life were music, how well would it be played?

I'll be adding more as I have time to think...
