Halloween - Who is the ‘Devil’ & what is ‘Evil?’

Revelation 12:1-17 (10)

Who's "the accuser" and how does he affect us? This passage in the twelfth chapter of Revelation is a very descriptive, highly metaphorical accounting of an event that has had lots of speculation down through the years. I've read so many diverse pronouncements about what it means from serious students and scholars that I'm pretty much convinced that the truth will only be revealed at some point in the future to each of us...and not by flesh and blood.

What I see in the tenth verse is a theme spoken of by various writers in the Bible..."the accuser" is at work among us.

I'm concerned that much of humanity only 'sees' "the evil one" as a Halloween character. Even that has been sanitized and made humorous - caricature masks and costumes of 'devils' and warty witches and fiends and ghouls, ghosts and goblins.

I'm not opposed to Halloween parties and costumes and such...in fact, I really enjoy participating in costume parties.

I am concerned that much of humanity doesn't understand the sly and destructive effects of evil coming as "the accuser."

So many wonderful people 'lose heart,' 'lose faith,' become despondent, or even despairing. I don't think it is because of any 'weakness' or 'lack of faith' on anyone's part.

I believe it is evil coming against God's children...I believe it is the work of "the accuser."

Even Halloween can be a time of encouragement and giving hope! "Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world." "Be of good cheer, in this world you shall have tribulation, but I have overcome the world."

What marvelous passages of scripture! As the psalmist said, we don't fear the pestilence or the dark...

We can be assured that every evening can be a 'hallowed eve' and an observation of 'all saints' who've gone on before us...not ghouls or ghosts, but a great and wonderful 'balcony of witnesses!'

Let's all eat candy!   :)
