I am irritated by Christians who merely use their head for a hat-rack.
“What on earth were you thinking?!” That still buzzes around my head from time to time. I heard it frequently when growing up. It seemed to be my Dad’s statement of choice when opening dialogue with me.
That statement assumes the presence of thought…frequently we aren’t thinking. We just open mouth and insert foot. Or, we just glibly go on our way without forethought or perspective.
The Apostle Paul is recorded twice as saying that we are changed as we change (or renew) our minds. Our minds are transformed with knowledge. It has also been proven from studies reported on by National Public Radio that having misinformation is worse (creating a deficit) than having no information at all on a subject.
Such is the case with many Christians…they frequently have misinformation, or no information at all on subjects that could greatly impact their life and livelihood.
What are we to know?
· Our redeemer
· Our mandate
· Our enemy
· Our goal
· Our hope
· Our duty
· Our opportunities
· Our flexibility, and,
· Our freedom
The Apostle Paul also said that we should “study to show ourselves approved…” Too many Christians are not only NOT ‘approved’ in their pursuit of what they believe - they are a discredit to, and a deficit for, the cause of Christianity.
