I am irritated by folks who are ‘Biblical Literalists’ but eat pork…

From my reading of the New Testament it appears that Jesus wasn’t a ‘Biblical Literalist.’ Here’s what He said on the subject:

- Straining at gnats and swallowing camels (Mt 23.24)

- Healing on the Sabbath (Matthew 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6; Luke 6:6-11; Luke 4:31-39;  Luke 13:10-17; Luke 14:1-6; John 5:1-18; John 9:1-34[13-16])

Paul on the subject: (Colossians 2:16-17)

- Eating with unwashed hands (Matthew 9:10; Matthew 15:1-20; Mark 7:1-23; John 2:1-11)

- Woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-15)

The personality of a literalist sees life in black and white, finding it easier to condemn and control than to bless and encourage and forgive.

How do you see Jesus - condemning and controlling -- or, blessing, encouraging and forgiving?

Pharisees were ‘Biblical Literalists’ and still are.
