Paul, on Good Works

"And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone." Titus 3.1,8,14

"And I want you to stress these things..." What am I stressing in my life? Now don't confuse what I'm stressing in my life with what I'm stressing over in my life.

I've discovered that my greatest times of enjoyment come when I'm fully engaged in an activity or dialogue, something that completely consumes me. That is a result of whatever might have intrigued me.

There are some axioms I've found particularly applicable to my life. One of those sayings is, "Be careful: whatever intrigues you can consume you."

Those are situations in which I have fully "devote(d)" myself to doing something. When I am fully devoted to accomplishing something, I rarely find myself feeling stressed.

This sounds like a good antidote for debilitating stress - become fully engaged (fully devoted) in doing good things. When my focus gets off of myself and I am in pursuit of a goal, I am a happier, healthier, much more pleasant person.

When that goal involves something bigger than my self-interests, I find myself expanded and very fulfilled. In other words, it is very good for me to be involved in doing good for others. I'm a much happier camper!

I'll bet you are too! And I'll bet if you were happier, others would be happier... yep, I'm a talkin' to you.
