Paul, on Love

Would you like to join me in a little exercise that will last the rest of you life? Would you like to transform yourself into someone totally irresistible and absolutely loved by everyone? Would you like to know the secret of a marriage that has more zing and fling than anything in the paperback romance books? Do you want to be so revered that no one would ever believe anything bad about you?

Have you read I Corinthians chapter 13 lately? Don't tell me you already know what it says. I think we could read it daily and still be learning what it says.

Read it in an up-to-date English translation...read it and weep. I believe, to borrow a phrase God used in the Revelation he gave the apostle John, we must do 'our first works over.' We must learn what love is...and what it isn't.

Okay, here's a quick list of what it is and what it isn't...

It is patient, it is kind, it keeps no record of wrongs, it rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, it never fails.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it does not delight in evil.

Try this in "The Living Bible" and you will find such stuff as, "It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong."

Got that? If you do, you are the perfect spouse...the perfect child, the perfect parent. You are the perfect friend.

If there is ANYONE out there who might dispute any of the above concerning you, then there's still work to be done on learning what love is...and what it isn't.

So what are you waiting on? Where to start...well, start with those to whom you have said, "I love you."

Show them what love is...and what it isn't!
