When God set the worlds in order ("In the stars His handiwork I see…")

John 1:9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God -- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. 14 the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is a marvelous poetic and philosophical statement presented by the author of what I consider the ‘best’ of the Gospels – 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

No explanation of the creation, no description, no timeline, no scientific facts about the cosmos…just this – “He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

No ‘how, when, why, or where’ – just that He was there. In the beginning He was there.

I could stop here. That should be sufficient if we are really interested in living by faith.

I will accept the evolving scientific explanations and understanding of the universe and I will always say to myself, “…and He was there.”

I have no point to prove. I have no ‘facts’ to support my assertion. I certainly am not upset or hostile or angry with anyone who isn’t taking this particular position of mine. It is ‘my’ faith perspective.

If there was a “Big Bang” – He was there.

If there were worlds created with life forms – He was there.

If there have been multiple stages of mankind on this particular planet – He was there.

If there are ‘wormholes’ and ‘black holes’ in the universe – He is there.

If every galaxy has a black hole in the middle of it – He is there.

If our universe happens to be in a black hole of another universe – He is there.

If my understanding of ‘eternity’ is different from the scientific understanding of infinity it won’t matter because whatever the ultimate reality – He will be there!

I sing the Ralph Carmichael song from the era of my young adulthood, “In the stars His handiwork I see…” (“He’s Everything To Me” ©1964 Communique’ Music/ASCAP)

I sing “I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed…” (“How Great Thou Art” © 1953 The Stuart Hine Trust)

And I relax in the full faith and assurance that He was, He is, and He always will be – there.
